Exclusive to Midwinter Yarns!
Introducing the Shortie version of our popular Ochils Bags - a smaller, more light-weight version that is more packable and portable.
Continuing in our desire to use local materials for our handmade project bags, I was very excited to discover that waxed cloth is, in fact, a Scottish invention, and still being made in a traditional way in Dundee.
This sturdy cotton canvas is usually made water repellent using paraffin waxes - reclaiming and making use of a waste product from the petrol industry. It is a wonderful, rugged material that will naturally gain creases and scuffs with use, eventually creating a beautiful, vintage patina, and its water repellent properties will of course also keep your project nice and safe from the elements or indeed, any spillages.
The Shortie Bag itself is a roomy project bag hand made by us here at Midwinter HQ, and features a double internal pocket with space for notebooks or patterns. The outer layer is made from a waxed 100% cotton canvas, and it is lined with a linen look cotton fabric.
The Shortie has the same width and deep base as the original Ochils, but is two inches shorter. This makes for a nice wide, shallow bag that is easy to find things in.
The inside view of the bag is shown easily containing 200gr of yarn to give you an idea of capacity, although there is plenty of room here for a shawl project of 300gr +
The bag closes with a roll-down construction, so it becomes fully sealed without the risk of catching on zips or buttons. The metal clasp then forms a handy strap to carry the bag with, or hang off your arm if working on the go.
Measurements:
Height (unrolled): 22cm / 8.5 inches
Width at top: 33 cm / 13 inches
Depth (at base) : 15 cm / 6 inches
This outer is made from a warm grey waxed canvas, lighter in weight than our larger Ochils, and with less pronounced creasing. The lining features a geometric print in shades of grey and white on a natural canvas background.
