This sweet Fairisle hat was designed by Ullcentrum and celebrates the links between Swedish and Scottish knitting traditions.
It is named Blå Jungfrun, or Blue Maiden after an island near Öland in Sweden where Ullcentrum are based and their local wool is grown.
The kit contains 1 x 50gr Main Colour and 4 x 20gr Contrast Colours in Ullcentrum sport weight yarn, a rustic yarn made from 100% Swedish wool, full of character that blooms and softens when washed (may contain some vegetable matter), and full pattern instructions with colour charts.
You will require 3mm and 3.25mm circular needles (or size to obtain gauge) on an 80cm cable if using the magic loop method, or Double Pointed Needles if preferred, along with one stitch marker and and a darning needle for weaving in ends
Tradition features colours much used in Swedish folk craft: earthy red for the main colour and contrasts in petrol blue, navy, natural grey and natural white.
You have enough yarn in the kit to use the contrast colours in any order you like, but the Main Colour needs to stay the same.
The pattern comes in one size for an average adult. It can be scaled up or down somewhat by adjusting needle sizes or the amount of stretch when blocking.
As is traditional for Fairisle knitting, you will only ever be working with two colours per row, making this a suitable project for someone with a little knitting experience, but new to colourwork.
***PLEASE NOTE*** this is a kit to make your own hat, NOT a finished product.
